Do you really understand the RJ45 connector? How many types of RJ45 connectors do you know?

RJ45 connectors often appear in our daily lives, have you noticed them carefully? The network cables, routers, and switches used for network connection in our computer are all connected for communication through RJ45 connectors. So how many types of RJ45 interfaces do you know? So how much do you know about the types of RJ45 interfaces? Today, we will introduce you to the knowledge of RJ45 interface types, so that you can have a deeper understanding of RJ45 connectors.

Most RJ connectors are RJ45 connectors for Ethernet connections, 8P8C, capable of connecting 4 pairs of twisted pair cables, 12mm wide, which is slightly wider than the RJ11 series. RJ45 connectors are sometimes used for telephone or RS232 connections, and some are also used to transmit VGA video signals.

The universal telephone connector belongs to a type of RJ11, originally developed by a company in the United States as a universal name for a connector. It was originally named WExW and has a 6-pin appearance. WE6W uses all 6 contacts, while WE2W only uses the middle two pins, later becoming a type of RJ series connector.

RJ11, RJ14, and RJ25 are of the same series, with the same size and a width of 9.5mm, but different numbers of contacts. RJ11 only has a middle pair of contacts that can connect a pair of wires, denoted as 6P2C (six position, two conductors); RJ14 uses the middle 4 contacts and can connect 2 pairs of wires, represented as 6P4C; RJ5 uses all 6 contacts and can connect 3 pairs of wires, denoted as 6P6C.

Sometimes this type of connector can also be used to provide low-voltage low-power power supply (AC or DC), commonly used as PIN2 and PIN5 (black and yellow wires). Generally, RJ11 is used as the general term for this 9.5mm series, and RJ11-6P2C, RJ11-6P4C, and RJ11-6P6C are used to distinguish the number of contacts. There is also a connector used in the phone to connect the phone to the handle, called 4P4C (also known as RJ22 and forming a series with RJ9 and RJ10), with four contacts, 7.5mm wide, and smaller than RJ11 feet.

There is also an 8P8C connector called RJ61, used to connect twisted pair cables. Because the two wires in the third and fourth pairs of twisted pairs in this wire sequence are far apart, it can cause significant crosstalk and is not suitable for the transmission of high-frequency signals such as Ethernet. There is also an RJ48 connector, also known as 8P8C, that can be used to connect 4 pairs of T1 data links, each pair of lines can transmit 23 time-division multiplexed sessions.
